UPDATE 07.29.13: Friends of Yager establish the ‘Babydude Watch’
This morning we’re asking our readers to send good vibes over to Albany, New York, where Samuel “Sammy” Yager, a former Bostonian who creates experimental electronic music as Birthdays, is currently hospitalized after a Thursday night bike accident. We don’t know too much right now, but have learned Yager fell off his bicycle and struck his head. The Saratoga Springs native was reportedly not wearing a helmet.
Yesterday, Sean Saunders posted the following to his friend Yager’s Facebook wall:
For everyone that hasn’t yet heard, our good friend, Samuel Yager, has been hospitalized. He’s currently exhibiting early signs of a coma. He’s being taken care of by the amazing people at Albany Medical Center and will be there for some time still.
If anyone is interested in visiting him we have been hosting those of you out of town at our apartment in Saratoga, Feel free to get a hold of me. [Edited for privacy.]
Sammy is an amazing person, everyone’s still very positive and its important to keep him in our hearts. So much love!
We can certainly attest to Yager being an amazing person, and will update his progress as it becomes available. Saunders told Vanyaland this morning that a fund will be soon put together, and he’s already begun organizing a compilation to help offset Yager’s medical costs. The music community has also started to explore fundraisers through live shows and events.
The featured Yager photo on the homepage and up top is from a Boston Phoenix review of the 2012 FMLY fest. Last October, Birthdays released a self-titled EP on cassette via Everyday Is a Mix Tape, which you can hear below.
And here’s the Loroto-produced music video for “Howolding Girls,” a track I spun quite a bit last year on WFNX.com.
Get well soon, dude.
