Well well well, look who got her very own byline for Weekenders, the mad scientist assembly of awesome songs I force people to listen to. Someone asked me last week if I realized that I had put Avicii and the Pixies on the same playlist. Uh, DUH. Welcome to the inside of my head, folks. It doesn’t make any sense but it sure does sound good.
And so the fourth installment of Weekenders follows suit, taking you from grunge to synth-pop in one fell swoop. Impress people with your musical range by playing low-grinding “Loose Sutures” from Ty Segall’s new project Fuzz, and the latest from Ghost Beach, my go-to for tropical grit pop (cause everyone needs a tropical grit pop go-to, obviously).
For bonus points, check out the accompanying video, an animated masterpiece involving cacti and online dating. There’s also some hometown heat in there, a free download from Boston-based electro-everything duo Case & Point (feat. Lara Woolf) and Boston ex-pats Carousel. Oh AND a Passion Pit remix of Portugal. The Man’s “Purple Yellow Red & Blue.”
Am I missing anything? Shout it out in the comments. Though I can’t promise I’ll oblige, it’s my playlist and I do what I want.
