[in my head] Case & Point featuring Lara Woolf, “Alive”

Case & Point

When Boston production duo Case  & Point broke on to the scene early last year, they instantly gained exposure with their big-room remixes of Icona Pop, Radiohead, and the xx. Now the electro-house tandem is starting to do dance some floor damage with their own original compositions, from the breakneck pace of last summer’s “Razor” to May’s Beatport-charting Upgrade EP (off Big Fish Recordings), where its title track was recently spun at Electric Daily Carnival by Porter Robinson during his closing set at New York’s Citi Field.

Case & Point bill their music as “big room house,” but it’ll be hard to find any enclosed space, no matter how large, that could contain their next offering, “Alive,” which features the vocal styling of Lara Woolf. It’s an ambitious cut that makes an instant play for “summer anthem” status, and sets mainstream dance radio in its sights (hey Evolution 101.7 FM, get on this).

In Woolf’s former life, she once comprised one half of Boston synth-pop duo Stereo Telescope, but here throws her crystalline vocals over a surging electro banger, trading her former project’s blips and bleeps for a magnetically coiling rave crusher that’s best suited for the outdoors.

Appropriately, Case & Point DJ gigs are rare around their hometown’s club circuit, but they are making an appearance at August’s Bella Terra Festival in Stephentown, New York, taking over Gardner’s Field with the likes of Datsik, EOTO, and Ghostface Killah. They’ll benefit from the open-air space.
