Editor’s Note: We should really just give up the notion that Boston’s live music calendar is relatively quiet between Thanksgiving and Christmas. That may have been the case in recent years, but it’s just not true anymore, and last night’s Protomartyr and Preoccupations headlining joint — on the Monday (November 26) after a long holiday weekend, no less — at Brighton Music Hall proves this point at maximum volume. Detroit’s Protomartyr rolled into Allston on the strength of this summer’s sterling Consolation EP (a collaboration with Kelley Deal), while Calgary’s Preoccupations remain not only a Vanyaland fave, but one of the best live bands around (March’s New Material is no slough either). Ben Stas was inside Brighton Music Hall for this latest Fenway Recordings Session, and you can scan through his full gallery of the evening’s festivities, including openers Rattle, who only needed two drum kits and a pair of voices to do their thing.
