Studio 52 Spotlight: Today Junior
What Studio 52 Says: Indie rock trio Today Junior’s newest full-length is out and it officially banishes the winter with its array of upbeat wavy surf-rock. Released early last month, the album is a definitive and propulsive step forward in the progression of the band’s maturation. Today Junior sound as tight as ever on the record, handing out poppy melodies like candy and knowing exactly when to slow the tempo down and when to pick it back up to make you jump and dance around. Their haphazard sound staggers together and fits like a puzzle, with the murky bass lines and roiling drum fills supplementing the cheerful guitar riffs and creating a collection of staples for your summer playlist. If you’re heading to Porchfest in Somerville this weekend, be sure to catch at least one of the three sets they’re playing on Saturday (May 12). But if you miss them (or just want to see them four times in a day) stop by O’Brien’s Pub in Allston Saturday night when they share the stage with Clever Girls, Darkwing and Conor Maier. — Andrew Maroney, Studio 52
