As you may have heard, today is 4/20 across the land, and spirits are relatively high. Accordingly, Will Dailey has turned up with an audible jam that should smooth out the senses between now and midnight, but like most of the Boston songwriter’s compositions, there’s more to it beneath the shake’s surface.
Dailey’s new tune is called “Bad Behavior,” and it’s another cut off his upcoming June 1 record It Already Would Have Not Worked Out By Now, which has been fully funded via a Pledge campaign. The track’s got a lose bounce to it, dropping down somewhere in chill disco’s casual ease, then bouncing up with the brazen ambition of yachtian ’70s soft rock.
But while Dailey is street-struttin’ back into our lives, the lyrical tale is one of intrigue. While “Bad Behavior” was originally designed to be a folk song inspired by the 2017 Women’s March, it shifted into more of a pop cruiser just before it was recorded. Dailey here toys lyrically with the notion that there’s two types of “bad behavior” in our country, one from those in power and one by those fighting against them. Each side sees the other as employing less than savory methods of attacking the other, yet only one will have history on its side.
Like yourself, Dailey knows which side of the march he stands on. Listen to “Bad Behavior” below, and catch Dailey live at Festival at the Farm in Canton this September.
