The Boston Bruins are currently battling the Toronto Maple Leafs in the first round of the NHL’s Stanley Cup Playoffs, but defensemen Zdeno Chara isn’t sweating it. In fact, he’s spending his evenings away from the rink not exactly thinking about hockey — but of the Foo Fighters.
As one does.
Chara took to Instagram yesterday to sing the praises of Dave Grohl and the Foos, sharing a photo of the pair that BarDown reports is from back in 2011.
“Nirvana was the band and music I listened to endlessly when I was a teenager,” Chara writes on IG, complete with a Slovakian translation underneath. “Jumping around with long hair and tossing my lengthy skinny body into the walls. As much as I liked Kurt’s vocals and Krist’s base guitar nothing was better than hearing Dave’s powerful blasting drumming. When Dave started the band @foofighters I couldn’t be happier. He became one of the most talented and successful musicians in the world. It was an honor to have met him. Music has incredible power and can inspire, motivate and transform. It makes us move and it moves us. It gives color to our lives.”
The thought of a long-haired Chara “tossing [his] lengthy skinny body into the walls” fills us with such joy, it’s hard to put into words. We still can’t believe this dude was once traded for Alexi Yashin.
Meanwhile, The B’s play the Leafs tonight at the Air Canada Centre in Game 4 of their series, and the Foos return to Boston this summer for two gigs at Fenway Park. Maybe, just maybe, Z will bring a certain silver chalice to the stadium. #jinx
