Studio 52 is a community artist space located in the heart of Allston, and is proud to support the Boston music scene and local artist community.
From Allston’s Soul Fire closing in January to the Red Sox falling to the Astros in the ALDS in October, Boston suffered a fair amount of notable losses over the course of 2017. But perhaps the most significant, from a musical standpoint, was losing Sleeping Lion to Los Angeles. The Boston-born downtempo electronic-pop duo of Nate Flaks and Noah Longworth McGuire relocated out west just as they were gaining traction here in town, and one of the first fruits of their newfound West Coast shine is “Easy For You”. The clean, come-up track is all about maintaining forward momentum after a relationship has ended. Which we find rather fitting. “The first verse is very apologetic,” says Flaks. “I’m this way, I’m sorry for being this way and making it easy for her to want to leave… But as the song progresses, it becomes more about taking ownership of that sort of stuff. It moves from this song for her to this song for me.” While emerging out of bad relationships took some personal maturity, Sleeping Lion are also still getting acclimated to life in LA and not Boston. “Leaving wasn’t easy,” adds Flaks, “but hopefully whatever comes next will be worth it.” Sounds promising so far.
