For our money, one of the breakout performers at last year’s Boston Calling Music Festival was Lucy Dacus — and it came right at the start. The Virginia singer-songwriter was one of the fest’s early players, playing the opening Friday afternoon Green Stage between across-the-field sets from Vundabar and Whitney. Later that day, Dacus dropped by the media tent, where she chatted with Karen Muller of Vanyaland to discuss new music, festivals, and her Matador Records debut album No Burden.
Since our chat, Dacus’ provide has elevated even higher, releasing acclaimed new record Historian last month. And everyone loves it.
With Dacus coming back to town for a Wednesday (April 11) appearance at The Sinclair in Cambridge, just over the river from where she played Boston Calling last May, we decided to revisit her chat with Muller and trace any seeds of inspiration for what ended up being her Historian LP.
