Studio 52 Spotlight: Bruvs
What Studio 52 Says: Indie rock/garage punk duo Bruvs was formed by a couple of brothers, Zach and Dave Petti, and the chemistry between the two is a powerful force. Fuzzed out guitar parts and distorted vocals dance over smashing indie rock drums to create a whirlwind of sound that will keep you longing for the return of Tame Impala. The two have been playing music together since 2004, at the ripe ages of 9 and 16, and years of developing their sound eventually evolved into cleverly-titled Bruvs in the winter of 2015. Not long after, in August 2016, they put out their debut self titled album on cassette with the backing of Eye Design Records, and the 12-song release is loaded with catchy tunes reminiscent of Pixies and Dinosaur Jr. Their 2017 single “Strange Galaxy” proves they’re still honing in on and improving their sound, as it possesses even catchier vocal melodies, but doesn’t turn its back on the direction they’ve had since day one (or age 9). Come out, have a beer or two, and embrace the fuzz this Monday, February 12 at Cambridge’s tried and true home for exhilarating shows, The Middle East. With The Dirty Byrds releasing a new record, Mnenomonist, and The Woodchix banging out sets, you haven’t had this much fun on a Monday since before responsibilities ran your life. — Trevor McSweeney, Studio 52
