UPDATE 3:39 p.m.: TMZ has updated their story with the following: “We’re told after Petty got to the hospital he had no brain activity and a decision was made to pull life support.”
There are reports Monday afternoon (October 2) that Tom Petty is currently on ‘life support’ after suffering heart attack at his Los Angeles home.
The 66-year-old rock and roll legend remains hospitalized.
Here’s more from TMZ:
“Tom Petty was rushed to the hospital Sunday night after he was found unconscious, not breathing and in full cardiac arrest … law enforcement sources tell TMZ. EMTs rushed to his Malibu home and were able to get a pulse. He was rushed to the UCLA Santa Monica Hospital and our sources say he was put on life support. Petty’s condition is unknown but was critical from the moment he was found.”
Petty’s tour engineer Robert Scovill just posted the following message to Facebook:
“To all of my friends and family, as you’re starting to reach out to me, I’m aware that the news about Tom is just breaking. I hope you can appreciate that I simply must hit the ‘pause button’ on Facebook and other social media for just a bit as we are all just a bit numb and very emotional at the moment. Please give us/me some time to gather our thoughts. I so appreciate your prayers and wishes as does everyone in the Tom Petty camp. I’ll be back soon with responses and some comments. Thank you everyone.”
Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame in 2002. They just played TD Garden in Boston back in July for a tour that only recently wrapped up last week.
More to come.
