UPDATE — August 17, 11:25 a.m.: A GoFundMe has been launched for the staff of the Spotlight.
Very quietly and very suddenly, another stage for live music has gone dark.
Word online Wednesday (August 16) is that the Spotlight Tavern, a bar, restaurant, and music venue in Beverly, has abruptly closed. Details are scarce at the moment, but general manager Warland Mark Hersey was among many of its staff to relay news of the sudden shuttering earlier this afternoon.
“As of today Spotlight Tavern is closed,” writes Hersey on Facebook. “I will have more answers to your questions in the next few days. We are extremely sad because of this news I thank you all that consider Spotlight your home. It was my home as well!”
Calls made by Vanyaland to the Spotlight on Wednesday afternoon were not answered. And there is currently no mention of the closing on its Facebook page.
With a motto of “Live For Live Music,” the Spotlight hosted live music, mostly local acts, seven days a week, as well as offering “2 full bars, a large covered deck and a professional stage complete with lighting and sound.” Part of its bio reads: “With a wide variety of music, performance, comedy, art, events and a friendly atmosphere, there’s a place for anyone and everyone at Spotlight.”
