Last last year, Lorde answered prayers from Stockton to Stockholm by covering Robyn’s 2010’s ode to relationship trust, “Hang With Me.” The track is a favorite of Robyn fans, and holds its own despite being released at the start of the decade in between two of the electro-pop queen’s most unfuckwithable jams, “Dancing on My Own” and “Indestructible.”
Last night at The Governors Ball Music Festival in New York, Lorde dusted the cover off once again, pairing up with co-conspirator and Bleachers’ ringleader Jack Antonoff for an uber-sweet male-female duet that speaks to the core values of the song. Gone are the tumbling synths and dance beats, and in is a bit of piano sincerity.
“Love is real hard,” Lorde reassures us before Antonoff starts up. “This song is about wanting to do right in love.”
We’re not sure how many in attendance immediately caught on to the cover, but those on Twitter certainly noticed. Watch fan-filmed video tweets below. Governors Ball continues today in NYC.
