How do you entice seafaring New Englanders to a vegan restaurant? With vegan clam chowder and lobster rolls, of course.
That’s how By CHLOE. drew vegans and pescatarians to the healthy chain’s Seaport location upon its grand opening in February, but the restaurant has a new approach for attracting customers in the brand-new Fenway location: “Fenway nachos.”
The second Boston installation of the eatery opens today at 100 Van Ness St., just down the road from Fenway Park, boasting menu items like nachos topped with vegan chorizo, black bean salsa, and jalapeños, along with a vegan smorgasbord of brunch, sandwich, and “grab + go” options. As a special grand-opening treat, the restaurant will be scooping its new “Strawberry Shortcake Chill” ice cream.
By CHLOE. was formed in 2015 out of New York City, but has since grown to include eight locations, with two more NYC outposts and a Providence locale in the works.
The new chain boasts a 100-percent plant-based menu and items made completely from scratch, as well as an eye-candy aesthetic (see: the cutesy, cartoon-ish menu, magazine-spread-worthy Instagram account, or signature swing chairs in any location). Overall, By CHLOE. is essentially a more-hip, less-hippie version of Cambridge’s Life Alive, another all-vegan restaurant.
“Boston has been so good to us and we cannot wait to become part of the vibrant and growing Fenway neighborhood [and] experience our first Red Sox season,” By CHLOE. co-founder Samantha Wasser tells Boston Magazine.
The new spot continues the Fenway’s food renaissance — joining Tiger Mama, sweetgreen, Saloniki and other joints fit for alternatives to the ballpark ‘hood’s traditional bar options — adding a guac burger and heaping serving of sweet potato mac ’n’ cheese to the area’s blooming culinary lineup.
