After George Michael died suddenly on Christmas Day at the age of 53, there were a lot of rumors and speculation surrounding the cause. Now, a British coroner has put an end to the speculating, reporting that the pop singer died of natural causes.
According to a BBC report, Oxfordshire senior coroner Darren Salter has revealed that Michael died of heart and liver disease and was suffering from dilated cardiomyopathy with myocarditis and fatty liver. Because this is deemed a “natural cause of death” by medical standards, there will be no further inquest into his death.
Here is the Salter’s statement, via the BBC: “Inquiries into the death of George Michael have been concluded and the final post-mortem report received… As there is a confirmed natural cause of death, being dilated cardiomyopathy with myocarditis and fatty liver, the investigation is being discontinued and there is no need for an inquest or any further enquiries. No further updates will be provided and the family requests the media and public respect their privacy.”
Michael died at his home in Goring-on-Thames, Oxfordshire. For all our George Michael coverage, click here.
