In politics and as in life, timing is everything.
And so is motivation and momentum.
Last month’s lead-in to Inauguration Day delivered the first We Are Not Trump compilation, an assembly of bands and artists’ speaking out against the current White House administration. Co-organizer Christopher Brown (Vary Lumar, Desk, The Difference Engine, Teletubbies vs Joy Division) told us a few weeks ago that he wanted to limit the compilation to 45 entries, to commemorate the 45th president of the United States.
Turns out the interest in the project was enough to double up.
A few short weeks after Volume 1 hit online shelves, benefitting the ACLU, the second entry is here for Presidents’ Day (February 20) and it features another 40 bands and artists from Boston and beyond, all rallying for a cause and raising money for Planned Parenthood.
The comp features tracks by The Wrong Shapes, Arms And Ears, Aloud, Parlour Bells, Adam PC, Eldridge Rodriguez, Future Carnivores, and others.

“As musicians, we have united to do what we can do to make our voices heard: Trump does not support us, and with the benefit of hindsight, he does not support the majority of American voters, either,” reads a statement on the #WANT Bandcamp. “While we accept the results of the 2016 election, we reject any and all of the racist, homophobic, and sexist rhetoric that accompanied it. …This is not a protest against the results of the election, nor is it borne as a result of any candidate’s loss.”
Their message is then followed by this quote from Bernie Sanders: “To the degree that Mr. Trump is serious about pursuing policies that improve the lives of working families in this country, I and other progressives are prepared to work with him. To the degree that he pursues racist, sexist, xenophobic and anti-environment policies, we will vigorously oppose him.”
