They say rock is dead.
Tell that to the fashion industry.
Nordstrom has delivered perhaps the most perfect gift for this holiday season, a “Medium Leather Wrapped Stone” that will set you back $85. Yes, it’s a rock in a little pouch, and we’ll admit that its got more pizazz and style than those gift cards everyone buys for family members at CVS on December 24.
“A paperweight? A conversation piece? A work of art? It’s up to you, but this smooth Los Angeles-area stone — wrapped in rich, vegetable-tanned American leather secured by sturdy contrast whipstitching — is sure to draw attention wherever it rests,” reads the product’s description. “A traditional hardening process gives the leather a beautiful ombré effect. Like all Made Solid leather pieces, this one is cut, shaped, sewn and finished by hand in artist Peter Maxwell’s Los Angeles studio. Using vintage leatherworking tools and traditional saddle-stitching techniques, Maxwell aims to create beautiful designs that embody both simplicity and functionality, and that develop rich character and patina over time.”
As you can imagine, the product reviews on its sale page are just as remarkable as Nordstrom’s decision to pass this off as legit.
But maybe the joke’s on us. As the Daily News reports, “two of the four rock varieties available on the company’s online store are currently sold out.” And Buzzfeed tells us that a Nordstrom rep claims it’s one of their more popular items.
Now if the $85 price tag is out of your budget, you can opt for the “small”, priced at $65.
But we are sorry, Boston shoppers — the rock isn’t available at any Nordstrom locations within 100 miles of downtown. So you’ll have to order online.
