Risking her own personal health for her art, Kate Bush developed mild hypothermia while filing video footage for “And Dream Of Sheep”. The visual now accompanies the track’s release as a single off her upcoming triple live-LP Before The Dawn, which documents her 22 performances at London’s Hammersmith Apollo back in 2014.
At those shows, the video of Bush was shown overhead during her performance. Now we have a bit more background on its creation, and the ordeal the musician went through to capture its authenticity.
“The vocal was performed live while filming Kate lying in the huge water tank at Pinewood Studios,” reads the description of the clip, which was posted online yesterday. “This was to create a sense of realism, as the character in the song is lost at sea. However it became more realistic than Kate had imagined. She spent so long in the water during the first day of filming that she contracted mild hypothermia. She recovered after a day off and carried on filming. Everyone agreed it had added to the authenticity of the performance. This film was then projected onto a large oval screen which hung above the stage during the performances of her live show.”
“And Dream Of Sheep” was originally released on Bush’s 1985’s Hounds of Love. Before The Dawn is first released November 25 in the United Kingdom and then sees stateside light on December 2. Get more info on it here.
