Call me pessimistic, but earlier this year when the #RenewYoungJustice hashtag gained a lot of traction, the prospect sounded like a long shot.
In the two seasons that made air before its cancellation in 2013, Young Justice established a DC Universe that balanced Wiff! Bam! Pow! superhero shenanigans with oft-unpredictable stories and comparatively grounded iterations of the Teen Titans. Even back then, Young Justice seemed too smart and cool to sell enough action figures to keep itself on television, and its production is surely too expensive for Warner Bros. to seriously consider reviving, right?
Or not!
Yesterday, DC announced that the third Young Justice season is on its way into fruition.
“The affection that fans have had for Young Justice and their rallying cry for more episode has always resonated with us,” said Warner Bros. Animation President Sam Register in a big ol’ statement. “We are excited to bring the show back for this loyal fan base and to provide an opportunity for new viewers to discover this excellent series.”
As of now, we don’t know if this is gonna be a straight-to-Netflix deal, or if it’s going back on Cartoon Network, or when it’s premiering, or what exactly the heck is gonna happen. Will Damian Wayne emerge as the Team’s newest, least-likable member? Will Miss Martian and Superboy realize they’re totally meant for each other? What has become of Wolf the Larger-Than-Average Dog and Sphere, the lovable sentient inter-dimensional transportation unit? She’s like a time machine who’s also a buddy!!!
We suppose we’ll find out.
