RIP: Dead Or Alive frontman and colorful performer Pete Burns has died at the age of 57

We have learned that Pete Burns, frontman for new wave pop group Dead Or Alive, has died at the age of 57.

Dead Or Alive were best known for ’80s pop hits like “You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)” and “Brand New Lover,” while Burns remained an icon in the gay and underground nightlife communities. The group was set to release a massive 19-disc career-spanning box set titled Sophisticated Boom Box MMXVI this Friday, October 28.

The cause of death is reported to be a heart attack.

British newspaper the Sun has posted the following message from his management team:

“It is with the greatest sadness that we have to break the tragic news that out beloved Pete Burns of (Dead or Alive), died suddenly yesterday of a massive cardiac arrest. All of his family and friends are devastated by the loss of our special star. He was a true visionary, a beautiful talented soul, and he will be missed by all who loved and appreciated everything he was and all of the wonderful memories the has left is with. We have no more words, we will make a further statement when we have had a chance to come to terms with our devastating loss. He will live forever in our memories. Sending you all our love. Lynne, Michael, Steve.(sic)”
