A year ago yesterday, Boston rapper THA CAPITAL G was sitting in a plane on the runway at Logan, armed with a one-way ticket to Los Angeles. The man born Giddens W. Rateau wasn’t sure what was next, and his going away party here in town ended just a few short hours prior to his leaving.
“I had no idea what I was doing,” Rateau says bluntly. “I had no plan. No job. No savings. I just knew I had to be in L.A.”
Now he’s back with a new tune and a full arsenal of promise and intrigue from the burgeoning Bos Angeles scene. Yesterday he dropped the video for new single “Ernest Baker,” released independently and produced by Cleveland producer Rami Beatz, most known for his work with Kid Cudi. “Ernest Baker,” which shouts out the writer and internet tastemaker, is the first song from THA CAPITAL G’s upcoming Giddy EP.
Catch his L.A. vibes and Boston foundation below, and stay tuned for that inevitable homecoming show.
