In a move that would make Beyoncé proud, Florence And The Machine have just released a 48-minute music film titled The Odyssey, the completion of a multiple-chapter visual saga that began last year with the group’s third album, How Big How Blue How Beautiful. The full video, directed by Vincent Haycock, has been assembled and posted this week, and we can’t think of any better way to kill an hour on a Friday than by letting Flo take us on her own personal journey.
“The Odyssey, like the epic poem by Homer, is a journey,” says Haycock in a press release, via EW. “It’s Florence’s personal journey to find herself again after the emotional storm of a heartbreak. Like the layers of Dante’s purgatory, each song or chapter represents a battle that Florence traversed and physical landscape that embodied each song or story. It’s a metaphorical journey about escaping your demons, confronting yourself and returning to the original Florence, the dancer, the performer, the lover.”
Florence And The Machine return to Massachusetts on June 7, when Flo and company play the Xfinity Center in Mansfield. Check out Matthew Shelter’s photo gallery from their last performance in town, last summer at Blue Hills Bank Pavilion.
