We’ve all seen The Revenant, and we’ve all seen what an angry bear is capable of. A bear in love is capable of so much more damage, however, so props to Eric D. Johnson for his bravery in Fruit Bats’ new video for “Humbug Mountain Song”, the latest cut from the Chicago folk-rock veteran’s new album, Absolute Loser (out May 13 via Easy Sound Recording Co.)
We don’t want to give too much away, but we will say that that’s one bold bear, and the ending has us wondering if maybe Leonardo DiCaprio got off easy in his Oscar-winning turn out in the woods.
Fruit Bats, led for the past 20 years or so by Johnson (also known for his work in The Shins and Vetiver) are set to head out on cross-country tour to support the new record, and come to Once Ballroom in Somerville on Saturday (May 7) for a co-headlining bill with Kill Rock Stars luminaries Horsefeathers. Fruit Bats will play a handful of shows around the Northeast this weekend before the tour picks up steam May 12 with a show at Rough Trade in Brooklyn.
Check out their full run of dates below, and watch the video for “Humbug Mountain Song” for a furry lesson in love, loss, and broken-hearted vengeance.
