Boston <3s Prince.
In an immediate show of respect to the late music icon, who died today at the age of 57, several area landmarks were lit up in Prince’s familiar purple. The Leonard P. Zakim Bunker Hill Memorial Bridge, which spans the Charles River near North Station along Interstate 93, showed perhaps the most symbolic of colorful tributes.
Also in purple tonight were Boston’s South Station, and the new Government Center MBTA Station, which we have to admit was more a shade of blue than Prince’s royal hue. Maybe they didn’t factor in purple lights when it re-opened a few weeks ago, and thought they were close enough.
Check out images of the Boston locations below, as well as some video of our cruise across the Zakim around 9 p.m. this evening.
Earlier today, it was revealed that Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker, a big fan of Purple Rain, asked the state Department of Transportation to light up the city in honor of Prince.
