Yesterday was a simpler time. It was a day when Kanye West promised via Twitter that his upcoming album Swish would be the “best album of all time”. How naive we were.
Today, ‘Ye raised them stakes, declaring that Swish would not, in fact, be something as basic as 2016’s album of the year. Instead, it will be generational: ‘This is album of the life’.
My life, your life, all our lives. That’s probably better than “best album of all time”. It certainly seems that way.
Game, elevated.
West’s promise tweets came hours after new details emerged over the February 11 release of his seventh studio album. The rapper will debut the LP with a full-album set at Madison Square Garden in New York City, a performance which will be broadcast that same day in movie theaters across the country. Pitchfork has more information on tickets for the NYC event; we’ll provide an update if any Boston-area theaters are getting in on the action.
In the meantime, get your life ready.
This is not album of the year. This is album of the life.
