The moniker of guitarist and songwriter Erica Sutherland, Boston-via-Providence garage rock-infused dream-pop act Littlefoot, will be heading to the West Coast later this week — just ahead of some anticipated snowstorms.
Ahead of Sutherland’s trip across the country for a series of shows with Los Angeles and Olympia, WA based garage rock collective California Redemption Value, she’s recently released a music video for the track “Maps & Hands”, off of Littlefoot’s debut Night Of The Living Dreams that came out back in December 2014. It’s visual artistry adorned with family videos that gives a look at what Sutherland’s life was like growing up.
On the story behind the song and what the music video represents, Sutherland says: “‘Maps & Hands’ was written about my sister, who, upon reaching adulthood, labeled herself as ‘not a creative person.’ The lyrics explore the idea of this sudden self-doubt that often sets in after childhood, where we spend countless hours at home and at school being creative without ever questioning our motives or the things we are making. The video seeks to bring back that feeling of playful, reckless abandon that exists during childhood.”
With multiple clips showing her and her sister having fun (and getting perms) in their adolescence, the video captures the innocence and naivety of being a kid that anyone can relate to.
Littlefoot’s West Coast tour starts tomorrow (January 19) at the lifestyle shop Gnarburger in Los Angeles with Shannon Lay from psych punk act Feels and it’ll be concluding on February 1 in San Diego at The Merrow with Big Bloom and Fake Tides. Most of the shows also feature California Redemption Value, and you can check out all the shows listed on the tour below.
