Late last year, Ugly Duck Studios in Brighton unveiled its ambitious Duck Tape Sessions, where three young homegrown bands are invited each month to record new material, produced and filmed by the studio’s crew. The inaugural November lineup featured Vanya Best of ’15 faves Weakened Friends, recent Rumblers the Color And Sound, and Long Time, a Boston-based trio that describes their sound as “thunderous rock”.
With Long Time’s show this Saturday at Allston’s Great Scott fast approaching — a spectacularly loud (and geographically diverse) bill with Boston’s Worshipper, Maine’s Murcielago, and New York’s The Walking Tree — today we shine a spotlight on their Duck Tape session, a live-take video for new track “River”.
The band released a debut EP in September, titled Worth, but “River” marked the start of Long Time’s now-solidified lineup, featuring guitarist/vocalist Thomas John Cadrin, bassist Colin Dinnie, and drummer Andrew Nault.
“From the moment when we first got together, after finishing like the first or second tune, it was easy to recognize that it was natural and all made sense,” Cadrin tells Vanyaland. “We immediately reimagined and brought some of my songs up to the level they were always meant to be at… The Duck Tape session was the first time that we’ve recorded something wholly us. When we recorded Worth, we’d only even had the name ‘Long Time’ for about a month. We all feel like we were just hitting our stride. River came together this summer, and it’s pretty much a representation of the sound we’ve become and a point from which we’re hoping to evolve.”
