Popping Off: Watch Air Traffic Controller’s new video for ‘The House’

We’re not gonna lie — when we saw the nominees for Song Of The Year in the 2015 Boston Music Awards, we were mad surprised Air Traffic Controller’s recent single “The House” wasn’t included. The airy, lyrically brilliant indie-pop song about growing up and two families coming together as one has been a fave here in Vanyaland HQ and on the VanyaRadio airwaves since its release, and now the clip has a proper video, which aligns nicely with its story-telling nature. There’s also a silly string fight and a shout-out to Dover-Sherborn High School in Massachusetts.

With Air Traffic Controller playing Brighton Music Hall in Allston tonight with Amy & The Engine and Jared & The Mill, we figured “The House” video, which dropped last week via MTVU and Funny Or Die, would make a nice Monday pick-me-up.

Back in June, director and local filmmaker Michael Parks Randa told us a bit about “The House” video.

“When Air Traffic Controller reached out to me to direct ‘The House’, I was drawn to the childhood nostalgia in the lyrics,” he says. “So when I came up with the concept I thought what better way to tap into that than by shooting the entire thing around my hometown and high school with my brother producing it? The band was really a perfect blend of hands on/hands off, helping to wrangle fans to the shoot while also trusting my vision and allowing me to run with my ideas. I tend to obsess over my concepts until I manage to bring them to life, and they allowed me to accomplish that.”
