Put a Blur On It: Watch Portlandia’s Fred Armisen sing ‘Parklife’ in Los Angeles

I get up when I want, except on Wednesdays when I get rudely awakened by… Fred Armisen singing bloody “Parklife”?

That’s apparently what happened last night at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, when Blur played the first of two massive North American shows this week. The second arrives Friday at New York’s Madison Square Garden, and we’re already excited to see who the special guest will be, filling the “Parklife” vacancy left by actor Phil Daniels, who apparently didn’t make the trip across the Atlantic. Damon Albarn told Rolling Stone earlier this month that Mike Myers (as Austin Powers) wasn’t interested, but did make a cheeky pitch to Donald Trump.

Whatever shakes out, it’ll need to be better than this pretty good take from the Portlandia star. The changes in the spoken word lyrics — on recycling, Crossfitters — are not bad. This ain’t ’95, and we’re glad the song can evolve with the times, oye.

Armisen runs off a list of locals parks that the song can be about, before Albarn assures him that the track is, indeed, about parks around the world. Watch fan filmed video below, via Stereogum
