Due to this week’s summer heat wave around Boston we’ve already used up all our sweet jokes about the beach, sun burns, and it being hotter than balls outside. So we really don’t have a catchy-ass lede to offer here, in this post about how Philadelphia rock band Beach Slang are at Great Scott in Allston tonight to kick off a six-night tour of the Northeast. But we don’t need one: the band’s latest trek is another run to support the still-excellent Who Would Ever Want Anything So Broken?, a record that’s making news of the Replacements’ second demise all the more palatable.
And all the Beach Slang boys want in return for delivering the good rock is a bit of affection: show up, and maybe even get a hug from a member or two.
“All these good cities with all these good people,” they write. “Come to a show. Say hello. Expect to be hugged. Until then, I’ll be not sitting still.”
Better than the usual Wednesday night stuff.
We should also note that Beach Slang covered Psychedelic Furs’ modern rock classic “Love My Way” at the Brooklyn Rubber Tracks Studio not too long ago, and it’s excellent. Peep that slightly south, their full run of dates, and the aforementioned Who Would Ever Want Anything So Broken? below…
