As Boston last night waited on U2 to show up to the Burren in Somerville, another type of secret special guest performance materialized about 440 miles south. That’s where Taylor Swift continued her 1989 tour in style by inviting Lorde out on stage to sing the New Zealander’s mega-hit “Royals” in front of tens of thousands of fans at Nationals Park.
The combination of “Royals” and “Nationals” has us thinking Swift may have just predicted the 2015 World Series.
After the show, Lorde tweeted:
just laughing like “this is our job how lucky are we/this stadium is so loud and pretty/we are best buds/KILLING IT” … i’m gonna talk more about the show when i see it in full tomorrow.. be prepared for live tweeting and/or a long reference-heavy tumblr post … but seriously, @taylorswift13 is the leader of a great and beautiful galaxy that i’d live in forever
The invitation by Swift is following a growing trend of her inviting up special guests at each stop along her current tour. In New York/New Jersey, the Weeknd and Nick Jonas joined in, and last month Echosmith popped up in Philadelphia to bust out “Cool Kids.”
With Swift playing Gillette Stadium next weekend, July 24 and 25, now’s the time to start daydreaming about potential guests. How about U2?
UPDATE 9:18 a.m.: The video has already been removed (we’ll search for a replacement). But the World Series premonition is set in stone.
