‘She’s making me high’: Listen to Beck’s bold and upbeat new indie-pop jam ‘Dreams’

It’s been a great 2015 for Beck.

In February, the enduring alt-rock performer won an Album of the Year Grammy for the folky Morning Phase LP, and just a few weeks ago the 44-year-old held court over our city with a commanding set at Boston Calling Music Festival. Now Beck is back with a bold new indie-pop jam that should be everywhere this summer.

Not bad, Beck. Not bad at all.

The new track is called “Dreams,” released this morning and available to buy via iTunes, and it’s certainly a different look and sound from the more laid back Morning Phase stuff. Recently he told Los Angeles alternative rock station Alt 98.7 FM that the song “started out as a heavy garage rock thing and became much more of a dance — some other kind of hybrid.” It’s a cool mix of Tame Impala and that elusive and nonexistent MGMT song we’ve been wanting over the past several years. “Dreams” was written by Beck, Kurstin and Andrew Wyatt, produced by Beck and Kurstin, and mixed by Serban Ghenea.

Though Beck’s new album doesn’t have a name or release date, this first single is certainly enough to hold over the longtime fans and those looking to cruise around with the top down this season.
