We know what you’re thinking we’re going to say about the 28 Years Later trailer that Sony dropped on Thursday. There’ll be some mention of the new cast (Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ralph Fiennes, etc.) and a few digs thrown Danny Boyle’s way. Maybe there’d be an acknowledgement that we liked Alex Garland’s co-directorial effort Warfare, and some speculation about what, if any, role that Cillian Murphy might play. Well, you’d be wrong.
If we could, we’d write an entire essay about how much we love it when movies stick with their established chronology and iterate off that, even if they’re terrible. Blade Runner 2049 (great), 2010: The Year We Make Contact (fun and bizarre), Independence Day: Resurgeance (just plain strange): We’re here for all of them. So, 28 Years Later has got our imaginations cooking, and this trailer only increases our curiosity.
Peep it:
Here’s a synopsis for 28 Years Later:
“Academy Award-winning director Danny Boyle and Academy Award-nominated writer Alex Garland reunite for ’28 Years Later,’ a terrifying new story set in the world created by ’28 Days Later.’ It’s been almost three decades since the rage virus escaped a biological weapons laboratory, and now, still in a ruthlessly enforced quarantine, some have found ways to exist amidst the infected. One such group of survivors lives on a small island connected to the mainland by a single, heavily-defended causeway. When one of the group leaves the island on a mission into the dark heart of the mainland, he discovers secrets, wonders, and horrors that have mutated not only the infected but other survivors as well.”
28 Years Later hits theaters on June 20. We have a weird feeling this might make a lot of money. And don’t forget there’s a sequel to this coming in January, too.
