Stella Rose finds her own alternative mode with ‘HOLLYBABY’

A few days ago we hyped a band fronted by the son of a very famous musician, and we’re about to follow that up with a new project led by the daughter of a very famous musician. But much like Elijah Hewson’s band Inhaler standing tall on its own remarkable merits, so does Stella Rose.

The New York City alternative artist and spawn of Depeche Mode’s David Gahan returns with a stirring stomp of a single in “HOLLYBABY,” the title track to a new EP out December 13 via KRO Records. Propelled by a devious tension and suffocating charm, the showperson DNA shines brightest in the darkest corners, as “HOLLYBABY” delivers a confrontational confidence over a haunting bass melody.

It’s an intriguing composition from an intriguing new artist, rife with the type of faith and devotion one might expect. And this track, as well as the recent “MS.45.”, positions the EP as a must-hear just before we all call it a year.

“At the end of the day, I’m a writer,” Rose says. “It’s the only way for me to process my feelings, and when I write I might not understand the meaning or gravity of my words but at some point later they’ll explain where I was and how I’ve grown. That’s how I make music: I collect things over time.”
