A few months ago we hyped Amy Allen in our latest Boston Thriving post, because the prolific singer-songwriter, a Maine native who used to command Massachusetts stages with her indie-pop project Amy and the Engine, is popping off big time. And she has the charts to prove it.

Allen lent her songwriting talents to Sabrina Carpenter’s smash hit “Espresso,” and helped pen notable tracks from Olivia Rodrigo, Justin Bieber, and Leon Bridges, all while sharing an Album of the Year GRAMMY for her work on Harry Styles’ Harry’s House.

But she’s also been releasing a string of pitch-perfect pop under her own name, and today (July 17) returns to the streams with heartfelt and shimmering single “even forever.” It’s a cathartic anthem and glowing ode to self-awareness that’s also the latest offering from her forthcoming self-titled debut solo record, out September 6 on AWAL.

“[even forever’] is an introspective song about how no matter how weird and fucked up life gets, nothing lasts forever,” Allen says. “At first I thought I was writing it about someone I loved who was deeply hurting and I wanted to write something to comfort them, but then halfway through the song I realized I was actually writing it about how I was losing myself in my relationship and no matter how hard I might try to hold onto to something and make it last, nothing in the end really does.”

True that. Dive in below.
