The dog days of summer are upon us, and Asia Chow is here with the wholesomely uplifting soundtrack. The Los Angeles-based musician shared her newest single “The Sleeping Dog” yesterday (July 10), just her third ever since first hopping into the music game late last year and her first since a January reimagining of The Weeknd’s “Save Your Tears.”

Though Chow is early in her career, her music has an admirable sonic precision. With little more than a slide guitar and a beautiful vibrato vocal delivery, Chow’s enchanting signature sound shines on “The Sleeping Dog.” The all-around acoustics on the track feel warm and welcoming — like an early evening campfire, or an afternoon folk fest.

This is more than just a fun, simple ditty about dogs, obviously — though her own dog, Aba, served as inspiration.

“My toxic personality trait is that I must acknowledge every dog that I come across. It’s almost concerning how much I love dogs,” Chow says. “I was looking at my dog one day; she looked extra cute and peaceful. I thought about how grateful I was to know her and love her and how she teaches me to be more present and live in the moment. I wrote the song while I was thinking about all that.”

Chow takes the opportunity on “The Sleeping Dog” to reflect on what she’s learned, and in turn, creates a song that feels like a therapeutic musical grounding exercise worth practicing again and again.

If that’s not enough, Chow also shared an accompanying music video for the single, featuring a plethora of furry friends sourced from home video. It’s already racked up more than 60 thousand views, surely due in equal measure to the cutesy co-stars and its catchy track. Check it out below.
