VQnC showers Pride month with a fistful of nu-disco ‘Dust’

Fun fact: Every time someone throws a handful of glitter in the air during Pride month, they leave a little bit of shame in the dust. And VQnC is tossing the goods by the fistful.

The Somerville artist showers herself and the queer community with self-acceptance in the new single “Dust,” a party-til-dawn declaration of identity. Released during Pride month (June 17), the timing of the song’s arrival is intentional; as a reflection of her own coming out story, VQnC wanted “Dust” to debut at a time when fellow queer folks might be wrestling with their own identities and emotions.

Pulsing retro synths thicken the song’s atmosphere as VQnC retraces her own journey towards embracing her queerness. “What have I been running from, to grapple with who I’ve become?” she asks in the first verse, beginning to worm through a labyrinth of nu-disco. Her openness offers tender solidarity to anyone who’s stuck in a similar place of questioning or discomfort.

“As a queer artist, writing and releasing ‘Dust’ is my way of opening up and sharing my vulnerable experience of coming out,” she says, “and I hope the song meets someone where they are in their journey and brings them comfort in their own process.”

Rock on, rainbow “dust” woman. Tune in to the latest from VQnC below.
