Editor’s Note: How the hell is it already June? Aside from the fact that we may or may not have stepped into a time warp (put your hands on your hips), with a new month and nice weather comes even better comedy talent, and maybe a few less reasons to stay inside. So, while we keep searching for where the time and our sanity have gone, we’ll take the chance to remind you that comedy is continuing to do the Lord’s work by giving us something to smile (or groan, wince, or gasp) at. With homegrown talent, national headliners, and open mics galore highlighting the calendar, the plethora of powerful comedy throughout the commonwealth continues to show up, night after night. Enter Mic’d Up, our ongoing weekly series that details the best live comedy shows to consider as you head out and about. Below, find our rundown for this week, through Sunday (June 16).
Andrew Callaghan with Dear Kelly at Chevalier Theatre
Taking a break from reporting from the field, Andrew Callaghan returns to Medford with a brand new documentary on tap, and a whole lot of time to answer your questions again. Of course, there’s no telling where a night with the star of Channel 5 (not that Channel 5) will lead, so bring your thinking caps and buckle up.
ANDREW CALLAGHAN :: Tuesday, June 11 and Thursday, June 13 at The Chevalier Theatre, 30 Forest St. in Medford, MA :: 6:30 p.m., $30 to $50 :: Advance tickets
Josh Adam Meyers at Laugh Boston
Josh Adam Meyers is as “rock and roll” as it comes in comedy. Not only for his penchant to sing his setups and punchlines during his recurring hit live show, The Goddamn Comedy Jam, but even his attitude on stage away from it is brash, in-your-face and free of boundaries in all the best ways possible. Come for the laughs, stay for the positive mëtal attitude.
JOSH ADAM MEYERS :: Friday, June 14 at Laugh Boston, 425 Summer St. in Boston, MA :: 6 and 9 p.m., $33 :: Advance tickets
Anthony DeVito at The Comedy Scene
It’s about high time that Massachusetts tries to adopt Anthony DeVito as one of its own local comedy exports, because it just feels like a homecoming any and every time he makes his way back to the area, and for good reason. Mixing his hard-nosed East Coast wit and an undeniable ability to navigate his way through any space, we’re never going to get tired of having DeVito back in town to bring us up to speed on what’s happening in his life.
ANTHONY DEVITO :: Friday, June 14 and Saturday, June 15 at The Comedy Scene, 23 Patriot Place in Foxborough, MA :: Saturday at 7:15 p.m., $22 :: Advance Tickets
