Oh, what a lovely day for a new ‘Furiosa’ trailer

Furiosa
Warner Bros

One of the biggest “There but for the grace of God go we” moments that we’ve had in recent months came from when we were trapped at some sort of social function and had to listen to a few people in front of us complain about the fact that we’re getting a new movie from George Miller this year.

“Look, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is just gonna be bad. They didn’t even do it how they did Fury Road.”

“Yeah, and Anya-Taylor Joy? Pssh.”

“[Name] is gonna wanna see it, and I don’t have the heart to tell her how bad it’s gonna be.”

“I can’t believe that trailer didn’t turn her off already.”

And so on and so on and so on. We’ll now say what we wish we could have said: Shut up, nerds. George Miller’s putting up, so you shut the fuck up, at least until the movie’s out, or at least until you are out of earshot from any sentient creature.

Anyhow, this new Furiosa trailer looks fucking dope. Warner Bros. may not have intended to rain on Disney’s parade on Tuesday, but they did. Take a look:

Here’s an accolade-heavy (but deservingly so) synopsis:

“Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth star in Academy Award-winning mastermind George Miller’s ‘Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,’ the much-anticipated return to the iconic dystopian world he created more than 30 years ago with the seminal ‘Mad Max’ films. Miller now turns the page again with an all-new original, standalone action adventure that will reveal the origins of the powerhouse character from the multiple Oscar-winning global smash ‘Mad Max: Fury Road.’ The new feature from Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures is produced by Miller and his longtime partner, Oscar-nominated producer Doug Mitchell (‘Mad Max: Fury Road,’ ‘Babe’), under their Australian-based Kennedy Miller Mitchell banner. As the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus. Sweeping through the Wasteland, they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home.”

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga hits theaters stateside on May 24. This feels like a Cannes premiere. It might not be, but boy, they could use some silver spray paint on the Rivera.
