Waxahatchee consoles the nerves and emotions of addiction on ‘365’

Last month we stopped what we were doing to highlight Jess Williamson’s appearance at The Sinclair, and now we’re giving equal pause and attention to her Plains collaborator Katie Crutchfield. And that’s because Waxahatchee is back in our hearts and playlists today (March 12) with “365,” another spatial smoke swirl of a folk-pop single that showcases Crutchfield’s enchanting vocals. It also continues to build the storylines and moods of the forthcoming Waxahatchee album Tigers Blood, out March 22 via ANTI-Records.

“‘365’ is a song about codependency as it pertains to addiction and relationships with addicts,” says Crutchfield. “It’s something I’ve dealt with a lot in my life and I really wanted to distill the nerves and emotions down to their purest form in this song. [Producer] Brad Cook and I had a lot of ideas we tried for this one, but in the end, we tracked it live just him, Jake Lenderman, and myself running the song a couple of times together in the room.”

That intimate vibe is captured in the “365” video, where Crutchfield delivers a one-take performance, directed by frequent collaborators Corbett Jones and Nick Simonite. Immerse yourself in it below, and catch Waxahatchee when they return to Boston for an April 26 twirl at the Orpheum Theatre.
