Against all odds, Porno For Pyros have finally escaped the prison of the ’90s — but only for a brief moment in time. Perry Farrell’s post-Jane’s Addiction project has reunited for its first tour in roughly 25 years, and after a postponement of initial dates for earlier this year, will finally return to Boston tonight (March 5) for a weekend-vibe party at Citizens House of Blues.
The tour is dubbed Horns, Thorns en Halos, marking the 30th anniversary of Porno For Pyros’ formation, and is now billed as a “farewell” run as well. Hello Porno For Pyros; goodbye Porno For Pyros!
The eclectic and influential band, which had an MTV hit in 1993 with “Pets,” will run back its original lineup, with Farrell joined by Jane’s Addiction co-conspirator Stephen Perkins, as well as Peter DiStefano and Martyn LeNoble.
It appears we’ll never get the long-awaited album follow-up to 1996’s Good God’s Urge (pro tip: The single “Tahitian Moon” still slaps), but that’s fine; there is an alleged EP of new music on the way, including singles like last fall’s “Agua” and last month’s psych bopper “Little Me.” We’ll see how they sound tonight alongside all the songs of misspent ’90s youth.
