V3 Weekend: Raveyard, Phoebe Robinson, ‘Hocus Pocus’ at Fenway

Editor’s Note: Welcome to V3 Weekend, Vanyaland‘s guide to help you sort out your weekend entertainment with curated selections and recommendations across our three pillars of MusicComedy, and Film/TV. It’s what you should know about, where you need to be, and where you’ll be going, with us riding shotgun along the way.

Music: Raveyard at Magic Room

Halloween weekend starts now, and for our devilish dollar the best dark-arts party isn’t happening in Boston, Somerville, or Cambridge. Instead it’s a nocturnal retreat of goth beats n’ treats down at Magic Room in Norwood, where Raveyard takes hold and dances feverishly through the evening. The lineup is stacked under neon shadows, with live performances by goth-punk luminaries Pilgrims of Yearning, Casey Desmond’s CMB, and enduring electronic post-punk project Avoxblue, with The Portal’s DJ André Obin closing things out with his signature blend of off-world electronic music from the past, present, and future. “The night is drenched in synth-wave, electronic, dark-wave, and industrial dance music, and promises to be an intoxicating experience,” Raveyard promises. “Flickering neon lights and mind-bending visuals will transport you to liquid dystopia.”

RAVEYARD PRESENTS PILGRIMS OF YEARNING + CMB + AVOXBLUE + DJ ANDRÉ OBIN :: Saturday, October 28 at Magic Room, 83 Morse St. in Norwood, MA :: 7:30 p.m., 18-plus, $20 to $25 :: Event info :: Advance tickets

Comedy: Phoebe Robinson at The Wilbur

The queens will be out in full force this Halloween weekend (ignore the calendar, October 31 on a Tuesday just feels inconsiderate), but one queen in particular is posting up at The Wilbur tonight (October 27) to get the party started. Phoebe Robinson, the stand-up comedian, New York Times best-selling writer, and actor perhaps best known as the co-creator and co-star of podcast-turned-HBO-special 2 Dope Queens, hits Tremont Street with an agenda. Here’s Mic’d Up with the word: “She may be Messy AF this tour, but make no mistake that Robinson has made a habit of sticking a clean landing with her potent brand of upfront stand-up for years now, and at its current standing, there’s no exception. So hop aboard the adventure ride that Robinson is sure to supply for yet another night of unbridled honesty and hilarity.”

PHOEBE ROBINSON :: Friday, October 27 at The Wilbur Theatre, 246 Tremont St. in Boston, MA :: 6:30 p.m., $33 to $49 :: Advance Tickets

Film/TV: ‘Hocus Pocus’ at Fenway Park

There were few things scarier than the Red Sox’ 2023 season, but Fenway Park is packing in one more family fright before the freeze takes over for winter, as Hocus Pocus hits the ballpark’s centerfield screen this evening (October 27). The witchy flick turns the Big 3-0 this year, and it’s been playing all over town, from Cinema Salem to Coolidge Corner Theatre, but we’ll take any excuse to get back at Fenway before attention fully turns to hockey season. Plus, prior to the screening, from 4 to 6:30 p.m., Fenway is hosting free family-friendly Halloween festivities in the Gate B concourse and trick-or-treating around the warning track, with Wally the Green Monster, balloon artists, face painters, and stilt walker “Big League Brian.” But you’ll need a ticket to stick around for the movie.

‘HOCUS POCUS’ :: Friday, October 27 at Fenway Park, 4 Jersey St. in Boston, MA :: 7 p.m., all ages, $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under :: Event info and tickets
