There’s a riot going down in Cambridge. And Kneecap have the proper soundtrack.
The celebrated Irish hip-hop punk trio rolls into The Middle East Upstairs tonight (October 3) for a very sold-out appearance in Central Square, the latest stop on the boys’ Smashing Walls Tour of North America.
Kneecap have stirred up the shit across the Atlantic with their fierce stance of Irish unification and republicanism, giving a voice to those who wish for one Ireland. But the West Belfast crew are also keen to speak loudly in support of the working class and the struggles of common person, and do so in a mix of the Irish and English language that creates a potent cocktail of mindful fury. Kneecap are a true cultural phenomenon, one rooted in “community, craic, and defiance,” weaponizing their potent lyricisms and high-energy live shows to spark rebellion and change.
And because this is Boston, and this gig feels like a true homecoming for the trio — Móglaí Bap, Mo Chara, and DJ Provaí — Kneecap will also be posting up at The Dubliner Pub, across from City Hall Plaza, for a meet-and-greet and merch sling at 2 p.m.
“We are raging we can’t put more tickets on sale but this is the best we can do for now,” Kneecap write on Insta. “We will have shirts, badges, tote bags, stickers , beanie and bucket hats for sell.”
Get your green on.
