Editor’s Note: We’re too far into August to turn back now, and that means we’re getting close, but not nearly close enough to finishing our fight against the dragging dog days of this bogus, humid summer. With all of the stress and frustration that continues to pile up with every rainstorm and inability to some sun, it seems only right to assume that the best remedy for that would be, at the very least, to laugh. Lucky for you, we’ve got you covered. With homegrown talent, national headliners, and open mics galore highlighting the calendar, the plethora of powerful comedy throughout the commonwealth continues to show up, night after night. Enter Mic’d Up, our ongoing weekly series that details the best live comedy shows to consider as you head out and about. Below, find our rundown for this week, through Sunday (August 27).
Brieana Woodward at Nick’s Comedy Stop
If you can find another comic that can decimate a room while also bringing everyone together in discomfort in the beautifully untethered manner that Woodward can, we’d love to see ‘em. The truth is, the bustling local talent is an unbearable force coming out of Massachusetts right now, and has only continued her intensely unfiltered and wide-ranging comedic ascent, which leads to the historic stage of Nick’s this week, which we can only assume is only the beginning of big stages we’ll see her on in the future.
BRIEANA WOODWARD :: Friday, August 25 at Nick’s Comedy Stop, 100 Warrenton St. in Boston, MA :: 8 p.m., $22 :: Advance Tickets
Brendan Sagalow at The Loft Comedy Club
He may not be homegrown, but Sagalow’s ever-relatable and high-octane comedy makes us feel at home whenever he takes the stage. If you’re looking a great night out without tallying up the headaches of a bustling city, take a trip to western MA for a bit and still receive a top-tier stand-up performance from Sagalow that will have you looking forward to his return before he even leaves the stage.
BRENDAN SAGALOW :: Friday, August 25 at The Loft Comedy Club, 92 View St. in Chicopee, MA :: 7 p.m., $20 :: Advance Tickets
Andrew Mayer at City Winery
As one of the many representative faces of the Boston Comedy scene, Mayer is still the soft-spoken and thoughtful comedic firecracker we’ve come to know and love over the years. As he makes his way to one of the chillest spaces in town, which is seemingly more than fitting, we can’t wait to hear what kind of audible tapestry of musings and well-crafted jokes are making their way through the mic this time around.
ANDREW MAYER :: Friday, August 25 at City Winery, 80 Beverly St. in Boston, MA :: 6 p.m., $25 to $30 :: Advance Tickets
Ben Schwartz & Friends at Chevalier Theatre
The best part about a night with Ben Schwartz on stage isn’t always the laughs, and isn’t always the stardust that gleans off of him. Most of the time, as you’ll come to find out is that there is no specific direction as to where things are headed, which makes the improv adventure all the more enticing.
BEN SCHWARTZ & FRIENDS :: Sunday, August 27 at Chevalier Theatre, 30 Forest St. in Medford, MA :: 6 p.m., $49.50 to $99.50 :: Advance Tickets
