A few months back, A24 dropped the news that they’d acquired the rights to and restored Jonathan Demme’s Stop Making Sense, which is just one of those movies that everybody has to see at least once, even if they’re not particularly big Talking Heads fans and/or hate fun. That previous teaser was very cute — David Byrne picks up his big-ass suit from the cleaners! — and now the boutique distributor has dropped a new trailer for the re-release alongside a whole bunch of details about when and where you’ll be able to go check it out. Also, talk about preparation for the strikes, huh? They just had this one chambered and ready to go. No delays are needed here.

“Newly restored in 4K to coincide with its 40th anniversary, the 1984 film was directed by renowned filmmaker Jonathan Demme and is considered by critics as the greatest concert film of all time. ‘Stop Making Sense’ stars core band members David Byrne, Tina Weymouth, Chris Frantz, and Jerry Harrison along with Bernie Worrell, Alex Weir, Steve Scales, Lynn Mabry and Edna Holt. The live performance was shot over the course of three nights at Hollywood’s Pantages Theater in December of 1983 and features Talking Heads’ most memorable songs.”
The Stop Making Sense restoration will have its world premiere at TIFF in September (and if you’re in Toronto, you’ll have a chance to see Spike Lee interview all four of the original band members, which is… whoa) before it’ll make its way to IMAX theaters around the country on September 22. If you don’t live near a decent IMAX screen, you’ll be able to catch it on smaller screens at multiplexes across the land on September 29.
