Fall arrives at different times for different people. There are those who declare an end to summer, weather be damned, at the conclusion of Labor Day weekend, while some weirdos hold out for the Autumn Equinox a few weeks into September, and will scold anyone who dares say otherwise. For our money, autumn officially arrives with the Jamaica Plain Music Festival, and this year’s event, its 11th edition, goes down Saturday, September 9 at its longtime home of Pinebank Field.
For this and its past 10 festivals, the musical lineup is comprised of artists and bands with some ties to JP, and that has provided organizers with a wealth of talent to choose from. We’re always super impressed with the lineups, usually boasting more than a dozen performances over the course of the day. And this year is no exception.
Playing the JP Music Fest this year are, in alphabetical order: Aaron and the Lord, Merrie Amsterburg Music, Bob Bradshaw Music, Terry Borderline, Chandler Travis Philharmonic, Crooked Mowth, Epileptic Disco, Jesse and The Hogg Brothers, Lemonshiners, Matt York, MAMADOU, Muzzins (pictured), Ray Liriano Trio, The Roland High Life, Sado-Domestics, Swampanova, and The Alchemists, the winner of John Casey’s JP Bar Wars.
Organizers have also launched a GoFundMe for the festival, which is free to attend and welcomes all ages. As of press time, the campaign is past the halfway mark of its goal of $5,000.
“The cost of putting on the festival is completely paid for by local business sponsorships and individual donations,” the GoFundMe states. “Our costs have increased significantly over the past few years, so every dollar counts! Thanks for all your support. We couldn’t do it without you!!”
