Here’s a new thesis for lifestyle columnists to chew on: So-called “party poopers” are just people who value personal space. The proof’s in the new single from Leopard Print Taser, a zing-filled anthem for homebodies that boldly declares “‘Do you wanna come through?’ / Honestly I never do.”
“Esta Festa Me Molesta” arrived today (June 27) via Knife Hits Records, packing the Somerville band’s message into the Portuguese quip “this party annoys me.” The colorful first glimpse at Leopard Print Taser’s debut LP Existential Bathroom Graffiti — due out August 18 — recounts the flailing morons who often make going out physically uncomfortable. “Esta Festa Me Molesta” skewers the social nightmare with gutsy dream punk, revolving around vocalist Leila Bower’s acerbic question “you think I like getting dragged and laid out?”
“This kid keeps coming in my space / He grabbed my arms and touched my face / Please remember later that I really tried,” Bower laments on the first verse, her patience as thin as her now-burst personal bubble. And when pushed too far, Leopard Print Taser zap right back.
