It’s been roughly seven years since we’ve seen anything from Gareth Edwards, the once-upon-a-time wunderkind who kicked off his career with Monsters at the start of the ’10s and parlayed that into studio success, helming the 2014 Godzilla remake and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in 2016. That last production was a hard one, and it wasn’t too unreasonable to wonder if Edwards had taken time off (or had decided to ditch the studio system entirely), but rumblings emerged from CinemaCon last month that Edwards had an epic-looking project coming down the pipeline.
And, at last, we’re all finally able to see what those in attendance in Vegas saw — the teaser trailer for The Creator, an original sci-fi film starring John David Washington as a man tasked with hunting down the mad scientist who unleashed the robopocalypse and who finds himself playing babysitter to a child-like A.I., who presumably just wants to go to Coney Island and find the Blue Fairy. Wait, that’s the wrong movie.
Peep it:
Here’s a synopsis:
“Amidst a future war between the human race and the forces of artificial intelligence, Joshua (Washington), a hardened ex-special forces agent grieving the disappearance of his wife (Gemma Chan), is recruited to hunt down and kill the Creator, the elusive architect of advanced AI who has developed a mysterious weapon with the power to end the war… and mankind itself. Joshua and his team of elite operatives journey across enemy lines, into the dark heart of AI-occupied territory… only to discover the world-ending weapon he’s been instructed to destroy is an AI in the form of a young child.”
The Creator will take over your local multiplex on September 29. Just remember this teaser when you start using Chad-GPT to come up with pickup lines for your latest Tinder match.
