With each passing year, Felipe Esparza employs his storytelling skills and overall tomfoolery-centered comedy to ascend in the comedy game. But as he plots his return to Boston, he’s not fooling around.
As announced earlier this week, Esparza will be making his Wilbur debut when he stops into town for one show on August 19. In addition to his long-running podcast, What’s Up Fool?, Esparza has released three stand-up specials, with the most recent coming in the form of Bad Decisions on Netflix in 2020. He’s also found himself quite a few recurring roles in film and TV including Superstore, The Eric Andre Show, Guest House alongside Pauly Shore, and You People alongside Eddie Murphy and Jonah Hill.
While there’s no throne or a willing walking target in sight, the Roastmaster General himself, Jeff Ross will be making his way back to Boston on September 30 for a night at The Wilbur. Equipped with his unique brand of “speed roasting” that targets audiences and public figures alike, the BU alum returns to deliver the hard-hitting jabs he’s known for, and that have generated a number of specials over the course of the last few years. In addition to Jeff Ross Roasts Criminals, Jeff Ross Roasts Cops (which included Boston police as his central focus), and Jeff Ross Roasts The Border, he released a tag-team special, Bumping Mics, alongside Dave Attell in 2018.
A few miles away, Eric Neumann will be taking Somerville by storm, as the rising comedian makes his way to The Crystal Ballroom on October 27. With his late-night debut coming in early 2022 with a spot on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, Neumann has continued an ascent in the comedy realm that already yielded three specials/albums, with the most recent cropping up in the form of But Enough About Me: A Crowd Work Album. In addition to his live stand-up credits, Neumann has also been featured on Comedy Central’s This Week at The Comedy Cellar and The Iliza Shlesinger Sketch Show on Netflix.
And just when we thought 2024 was still a ways away, Pat McGann is here to remind us that it’s really right around the corner, as he’s already planning his visit to The Wilbur on January 27. Even as a late bloomer of sorts when it comes to his career in the comedy game, McGann continues to sell out venues all over the country — an attraction honed not only as a headliner, but also as the longtime opening act for Sebastian Maniscalco, which exposed McGann to crowds of all sizes, from comedy clubs to arenas. In 2020, he released his first special, When’s Mom Gonna Home? on Amazon Prime Video.
Additionally, Dave Attell has added a second show, a 10 p.m. late spot, to his stop at The Wilbur on September 8.
Tickets for these shows can be accessed via pre-sale now by using the code VANYA, before they go on sale to the general public on Friday (April 14) at noon ET, with the exception of the McGann show, which goes on sale Friday at 10 a.m. ET.
