Editor’s Note: While the month of March is most often closely associated with shamrocks, Guinness, and Dropkick Murphys becoming everyone’s favorite band for a few weeks, look no further than right here for your pot o’ gold at the end of the comedy rainbow. With homegrown talent, national headliners, and open mics galore highlighting the calendar, the plethora of powerful comedy in and around the city continues to bring a level of madness that can’t even be topped by the top-seeded basketball program in the nation. As the days (hopefully) become warmer and we start to thaw from the bitterness chill of winter, we always want to make sure you know about cool stuff going on in the world of comedy. Enter Mic’d Up, our ongoing weekly series that details the best live comedy shows to consider as you head out and about. Below find our rundown for this week, through Sunday (April 2).
Sarah Silverman at The Wilbur
Any New England show is a something of a homecoming show for Silverman, but what makes this return even more exciting is that she’s recording her next special on her last two nights here. Remaining one of the most insightful and crushingly brilliant joke writers of our time, it’s not a stretch to say she has a lot to talk about since her last trip into town, and she always winds up raising her game to the next level.
SARAH SILVERMAN :: Tuesday, March 28 to Friday, March 31 at The Wilbur Theatre, 246 Tremont St. in Boston, MA :: Tuesday at 6:30 p.m., Thursday and Friday at 7 p.m., $39 to $89 :: Advance Tickets
Hari Kondabolu at Off The Rails
There is no topic off limits when it comes to the well-articulated comedy force of Hari Kobdabolu, and while that may turn some people away, the longtime stand-up vet isn’t afraid to ruffle some feathers while bringing the laughs in bunches. And the fact that the show is at a country-music inspired venue just adds another layer of intrigue, and will surely make for a rootin’ tootin’ good time.
HARI KONDABOLU :: Thursday, March 30 at Off The Rails, 90 Commercial St. in Worcester, MA :: 7 p.m., $25 to $50 :: Advance Tickets
Will Noonan at Laugh Boston
While we patiently await the arrival of his very first stand-up special, the local fave is bringing his charisma and unabashed passion for his craft to the Seaport for one night only. And if his previous visits to one of the top spots in the city are any indication of what is in store, it’s bound to be a hell of a night with one of the city’s best to grace the stage.
WILL NOONAN :: Friday, March 31 at Laugh Boston, 425 Summer St. in Boston, MA :: 6 p.m., $33 :: Advance Tickets
Kathleen Madigan at The Wilbur
There are not many that can claim to be as comically potent and relatable as Kathleen Madigan, and with her latest hour (which comes at almost a break-neck pace since her last one), that doesn’t seem to be changing. Whether it’s grander views on politics, or close-to-home takes on family life, Madigan remains one of the most killer comics on the scene today.
KATHLEEN MADIGAN :: Saturday, April 1 at The Wilbur Theatre, 246 Tremont St. in Boston, MA :: 6 and 8:45 p.m., $36.75 to $61.75 :: Advance Tickets
